FAQs
Do you handle people with disabilities including spinal bone issues and osteoarthritis?
I'd love to say ‘yes’ but unfortunately our group classes are designed for people with only minor health issues. We suggest that you initially do a Private class with a Physiotherapist who's also trained in Clinical Pilates. Active Pilates would be happy to refer you to a qualified practitioner in your area.
What do I need to bring to your Pilates classes?
We have yoga/Pilates mats in our studios. Just bring some loose and comfortable cloths and socks with grips (if you have to some).
Hi I was wondering if you ran any medium to advanced Pilates classes? Or reformer classes?
Our Monday and Thursday evening classes (mat-based only) are suitable for all fitness levels. Unfortunately, we don’t have a fully equiped studio, but we do some exercises from reformer repertoire in our studio using small props.
Would it be okay to join your Group Pilates classes if I'm recovering from minor surgery on my shoulder?
Check first with your GP or Physiotherapist. It also depends on the type of surgery.
I am currently 12 weeks pregnant as was wondering if it's safe for me to start this now. Also do I need to book to be assessed before I start the classes?
It depends on your lifestyle and also if you have been doing exercise prior to pregnancy. First, check with your GP and ensure that it’s OK. Likely, you can still start with Pilates now.
What is the difference between yoga and Pilates?
Yoga aims to use meditation to acomplish spiritual insight and tranquillity. Yoga focuses on flexibility and mobility.
Pilates focuses on the development of strong core, stability and the dynamic and functional movement.
With the regular Pilates pracitce, you' will develop endurance, correct your posture as well as your flexibility. Pilates can be a very challenging and powerful workout for those people who are ready for it.
I am new to Geraldton and need to do some exercise. How do I secure my spot in Beginners classes?
We offer Beginner level classes on-demand. These classes are commencing at the beginning of the School term in WA and are run over five-weeks.
In the meantime, you're very welcome to join one of our All Fitness Levels classes on Monday and Thursday at 5:15 - 6:15pm. We always offer modifications to our standard workouts.
How many classes per week do you recommended I should do if I’m new to Pilates?
Ideally, you should start with two classes per week. Your body needs to learn new movement patterns and it can take some time to re-train your mind.
Do you think I would be able to join your All Fitness Levels classes if I’ve not done Pilates before?
It’s hard to tell unless we see you in the class. You’re very welcome to join one of our evening group classes, and we can have a chat after the class and let you know if your consider a Private sessions or Beginner level.
